Simon Spurge’s charity bike ride

Recently Seward Accident Repair Centres sponsored Simon Spurge in his quest to cycle from London to Paris to raise much needed funds for his chosen charity ‘Help for Heroes’. We are delighted to report that Simon successfully completed the challenge and
now back on English turf we posed some questions to him regarding his fund raiser  –

Q -  Hi Simon, firstly congratulations on completing the cycle ride. So why did you decide to raise money for ‘Help for Heroes’?

Simon -  I was looking at the troops plight and decided to try to help them as I feel these brave boys are not getting the support they deserve from the Government.

Q -  What did you do to achieve your goal and complete the fund raiser?

Simon - We held a very successful fund raising weekend at the White Horse Inn Westbourne, including BBQ, hog roast, and fancy dress supported by local people bringing along WW2 military vehicles and a Glenn Miller band in the evening.

Q - How much did you raise in total?

Simon - A hard earned £1700.00!

Q – What challenges did you have to overcome to complete the fund raiser?

I thought it would be difficult enough to complete the cycling, but there are many other challenges associated with raising money, from collecting money in our charity boxes along the way and of course getting sponsors to support us before we had even jumped on our bikes.

Q – Did you ever feeling like quitting!?

Like everything, it can get very tiring, but we were very fortunate to receive overwhelming support from the public from the moment we left London until we arrived in Paris, words can’t explain how this drives you to succeed.

Q – How did you prepare for the fund raiser?

I was Going out as much as possible, training on my mountain bike come wind, rain and shine. I targeted myself to cycle about 200 miles a week knowing that when I switched to a road bike the cycling would become much easier.

Q – So Simon, will there be a next time?

I would love to do London to Paris, a days rest then on to Geneva, about 700 miles in all. This is only if I can raise the sufficient funds as there are always costs involved. It is easy to forget the support and planning required, route markers, water stops, high protein lunch stops and also the back up crew of bike mechanics. Let’s not forget that I would also have to get home from Geneva and before anyone suggests it…No…. I’m not cycling home!!

Seward Accident Repair Centres are delighted to donate a cheque for £500.00 to Simon and pass on our respect to the services performed by our Military forces.
